NordVPN introduces NordWhisper: A new solution for restricted networks

The NordWhisper protocol represents a step forward in NordVPN’s mission to ensure open and secure internet access for everyone, no matter where they are. Developed as a response to increasing network restrictions, NordWhisper allows users to overcome advanced network filters while maintaining NordVPN’s security and privacy standards.

What is the NordWhisper protocol, and how does it work?

NordWhisper is a new NordVPN protocol designed specifically to allow users to connect to VPN servers from networks that usually limit traditional VPN traffic. As a solution for navigating around network restrictions, NordWhisper ensures a smoother and more consistent browsing experience, even in restrictive environments. 

NordWhisper uses web tunnel technology to operate differently from traditional VPN protocols like OpenVPN or WireGuard, which can be blocked due to their identifiable traffic patterns. By mimicking regular web traffic, NordWhisper avoids detection by network filters, ensuring reliable access on restricted networks while maintaining strong encryption and security standards.

The NordWhisper protocol is being rolled out gradually to ensure it performs at the standards our users expect. Initially, it will be available on Windows, Android, and Linux, with support coming to more platforms over time. Once it’s available, people will be able to find the option to manually select NordWhisper within the VPN connection settings on the NordVPN app.
